Lindgren Johnson, PhD
As an English PhD and former professor teaching academic writing and literature at the University of Virginia, I have both formal training and years of experience in academic developmental editing.
My scholarship and publications are in the fields of critical animal studies, vegan theory, and African American studies. From 2014-2016 I was co-editor of the Journal for Critical Animal Studies, where I coordinated peer reviews, made final publication decisions, and edited manuscripts. My monograph, Race Matters, Animal Matters: Fugitive Humanism in African America, 1840-1930, was published in 2018 by Routledge. The process of revising my dissertation into a book—and the knowledge I gained from both my successes (and mistakes!) along the way—heavily informs my approach to developmental editing.
I have recently given invited talks on interspecies justice for Yale University’s Department of Environmental Humanities (w/ Syl Ko), Columbia University’s Human-Animal Studies University Seminar, University of Victoria’s Animals & Society Research Initiative’s Distinguished Lecture Series, the Human-Animal Studies Summer Institute, and the North American Association for Critical Animal Studies (w/ Christopher Carter).
I offer reduced rates for emerging scholars who are working towards interspecies justice.
